Expecting a Better Practice Without “Specialized Knowledge”?
Many years ago, Napoleon Hill wrote an especially important book “Think and Grow Rich.” Although the style may be dated, the wisdom is timeless. This is one that belongs in all our libraries!
Of course, the title is a significant misnomer because if all we had to do is think our way to success, we’d all be there. Lasting success requires action, systems that work and most importantly specialized knowledge.
Specialized knowledge is the wisdom, experience, and tools that we must have to add new skill sets, services, and profit centers to our practices.
Far too often though physicians try to expand their practice with piecemeal changes. Then, they end up frustrated and wonder why no meaningful change in their satisfaction lifestyle and income has occurred.
Worse yet, some docs especially when starting out seem to believe that the arduous work of others, and their specialized knowledge should be free.
Nothing worthwhile in life is free. It all comes at a cost. That cost includes time, energy, and yes often travel and money.
But when we spend wisely, we can receive incredible returns on investment. Nowhere else is this as powerful as in our private practices.
An incredibly wise Doc once encouraged a much younger me to tactfully add my choice of new skills and expertise each year and then become expert at delivering these services before adding another.
Now I paid to hear him teach me many times over and never regretted his advice my entire career.
You see, when business growth is planned like this, each year will become better than the last!

Please take a hard look at obtaining all the specialized knowledge you desire sooner rather than later! Write it out and make a 1-, 3- and 5-year plan!
